Choosing accessory power globally
The most convenient source of power for electrical applications will usually be from the humble wall outlet. In most countries, mains power provides a high level of reliability, power quality, and safety- not to mention indefinite running time and high power output. For systems intended for sale and use in only one country, the design process for a power entry module is simple, but selling to a global market can be quite a bit more complicated.

  Terminal block prevents shorting, accidents
The UA Series utility-grade terminal block uses dividers between all positions, enabling uninsulated thick lugs to be used safely, and allowing testing without cross-position shorting concerns.

  Compression lug ensures high-current connections
Suiting medical, process-control, heavy-equipment, or railroad applications, the Plastic SurLok compression lug can be used wherever high-current cables are frequently plugged and unplugged.

  SMT, through-hole sockets suit pick-and-place
Several lines of surface-mount and through-hole receptacles are available on 7-in. miniature reels to accommodate 8- and 12-mm carrier tapes.

  Terminal adapter suits half-bricks
The ZTAH terminal adapter offers screw and clamp pc-board terminations for half-brick dc/dc converters.

  Power connector bridges bus bars
Suiting n 1 rectifier and power-supply applications, the Power Clip power connector bridges two perpendicular power bus bars.

  Cordsets, receptacles suit industrial apps
Suiting applications such as food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and materials-handling equipment, the microfast line of cordsets and receptacles comes in 2- and 6-pin versions.

Power cord connectors reduce space needs
Angled to take up less space, the Type 4789 and 4790 power cord connectors are rated for up to 16 A at 250 V and 21 A at 125/250 V.

  Interconnect offers M12 compatibility
Compatible with all M12 connectors, the Speedcon interconnect only requires a 1/2-turn to interface between cordsets and devices.

  CR2032 battery holder resists shock
The BU2032SM-HD-G CR2032 battery holder offers 30 etter shock resistance over previous models.

  Austrialian outlets resist splash, dust
Three Australian panel-mount enclosure outlets meet IP66 requirements for splash and dust resistance.

Power management in consumer handheld products
Consumer products, especially handheld devices, are becoming increasingly complex as many different devices with myriad voltage levels are powered from a single-cell battery or a wall supply when the battery is recharging. The power supply must handle low as well as high voltage, promote long battery life and high battery efficiency, and accommodate more end product functions--all the while being housed in the smallest possible package.

  Termination options for high-current cables
The common ring lug has been the preferred--and virtually only--nonquick connector for decades. Ring lugs are plentiful and the crimping tools are easily obtained. However, as power distribution within system cabinets has become denser and an increasing number of manufacturers have mandated captive hardware, alternative terminations have been developed to solve special electrical and mechanical needs.

Designer's Reference: IP (Ingress Protection) Codes
IEC 60529 outlines an international classification system for the sealing effectiveness of enclosures of electrical equipment against the intrusion into the equipment of foreign bodies (i.e., tools, dust, fingers) and moisture. This classification system utilizes the letters "IP" ("Ingress Protection") followed by two digits. (An "X" is used for one of the digits if there is only one class of protection; i.e., IP X4 which addresses moisture resistance only.)
